曾任农业部作物基因组学与遗传改良重点实验室主任、中国农业大学植物遗传育种系主任。现任北京市作物遗传改良实验室主任,中国作物品种资源学分会常务理事、副秘书长,中国农业生物技术学会理事,北京市作物学会副理事长,中国农业大学学报,Bulgarian Journal of Agricultural Science (BJAS)编委等学术职务。
曾先后主讲普通遗传学,植物细胞遗传学,五大作物育种实践教学,植物遗传实验技术,分子遗传与遗传工程基础,作物遗传育种Seminar等7门本科生和研究生课程。现主持硕士和博士研究生作物遗传育种研究进展,并参与博士研究生的作物科学研究进展的专题讲座。
长期从事稻种资源和基因组学、稻作抗旱遗传机理及其分子育种工作。在水稻遗传资源核心种质研究方面率先提出核心种质构建系统的理论及技术体系,首次提出中国普通野生稻和栽培稻的遗传结构,提出中国稻种资源遗传多样性分布规律,并对栽野演化及其栽培稻的分类提出新的见解。
目前,主要利用稻种核心种质培育的MCC-NAM群体和定向培育的产量性状、耐冷性状的近等基因系,通过连锁分析和GWAS相结合高效发掘和克隆水稻重要功能基因;创制了旱稻DH、RIL和导入系群体,结合国内外种质资源,通过连锁分析和GWAS相结合发掘根系、生理等抗旱相关性状的QTL或基因,利用基因组分析和RNA-Seq转录组分析技术研究了旱稻基因表达规律、旱稻抗旱的分子机制和旱生适应性进化;已克隆了抗旱基因OsMIOX、 OsERF62、OsERF71、OsQR1、OsAsr5;产量性状基因OsGL3、OsGL3b、Gnp4、Gnp6、GLA、RGN1;耐冷基因CTB4a、CTB2等。
主要承担国家支撑计划、国家转基因专项、国家自然科学基金和国家重点研发计划等项目。
